Kubernetes for Developers: Understanding Containers at Scale

Understand the Kubernetes concepts developers need to deploy, scale, and manage containerized applications.

Kubernetes provides a platform for running containerized applications across a cluster of machines. Instead of manually starting and managing containers, developers can describe the desired state of an application and let Kubernetes work toward maintaining that state. Core concepts include Pods, Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, and Ingress. A Deployment can define how many application instances should run, while a Service provides a stable way for other components to reach them. Kubernetes can also restart failed workloads and scale applications when demand changes. The platform introduces additional operational complexity, so teams should avoid adopting it simply because an application uses Docker. For developers, understanding the basic Kubernetes model is valuable because application configuration, health checks, resource limits, and deployment strategies directly affect production behavior.
